Position Summary
We are pleased to invite applications from qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Solar Technician, based in Ndola.
The Solar Technician will be responsible for the technical development, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of solar energy systems and related electrical, electronic, and refrigeration equipment.
The successful candidate will provide technical support to customers in the field, troubleshoot issues involving solar kits, solar systems, solar pumps, and solar refrigerators, and train sales agents and technicians in the safe installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar products.
The role requires a strong background in electrical and electronic systems, refrigeration, and fault diagnosis, including soldering and replacing electronic components. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot solar systems with capacities of up to 20 kW.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with established health and safety procedures during installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Manage spare parts inventory, monitor stock usage, and prepare monthly reports.
- Conduct timely diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs to resolve customer technical issues.
- Provide technical after-sales support, serving as the primary point of contact for customers requiring assistance and advice on solar systems and their operation.
- Troubleshoot solar systems and associated components to identify faults and implement appropriate solutions.
- Serve as the main technical contact for field-related issues and provide effective on-site support.
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair electronic systems and solar equipment, including soldering and replacing faulty electronic components.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, faults identified, repairs completed, and components used.
- Identify opportunities to improve departmental processes, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with product management teams to improve product performance and the overall customer experience.
- Train employees, sales agents, and fellow technicians on the technical features, installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar products.
- Ensure that electronic waste and end-of-life products are dismantled, segregated, and prepared for disposal in accordance with established waste management policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- A certificate or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Knowledge of and commitment to established processes, procedures, and safety standards.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with a high level of emotional intelligence.
- Knowledge of or experience in the solar energy industry will be an added advantage.
